Two people died Wednesday night when the small plane they were traveling in crashed near the Isle of Palms. A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration says an aircraft that crashed about 6:15 p.m. on the shore of Dewees Island, 20 miles northeast of Charleston was not a registered aircraft.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the craft involved in the deadly crash was an ultra light Zodiac, which is described as an experimental plane or flying boat.
According to the incident report, Lucas McDowell Smith, 40, and Cara Lee “Carly” Donohue, 27, died in the crash. Charleston County Rescue says that both victims were found in the water.
