Because of extreme heat and increased fire activity in certain areas of South Carolina, the State Forestry Commission is issuing a Red Flag Fire Alert for all counties in the state except Georgetown, Horry, and Marion. These three counties are now under a State Forester’s Burning Ban.
In all other South Carolina counties, outdoor burning should be avoided, but may not be illegal. Hot, dry conditions take a dangerous toll on the safety of Commission wildland firefighters and firefighters with cooperating departments.

The purpose of this Red Flag Fire Alert and the three-county Burning Ban is to avoid new fire starts in South Carolina.
The alert and ban remain in effect until lifted by the South Carolina Forestry Commission. Monitor that status here.
