The man who was injured when a beach service vehicle drove over him in 2010 has died.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office confirmed Erik Randall Rabon, 35, of Myrtle Beach passed away Sunday. The coroner says a cause of death has not yet been determined and added Rabon had been living in a nursing home in North Augusta since September 2010.
He was injured in May 2010 when he became pinned beneath the bottom of a service truck and the sand. The truck was reportedly carrying rental chairs at the time of the incident.
WMBF reported the truck was owned by Huggins Beach Service and driven by Craig Risbourg, 61, also of Myrtle Beach. It pinned Rabon beneath the bottom of the truck and the sand. The driver was issued a ticket with a fine.
Rabon’s family then filed a lawsuit against the City of Myrtle Beach, Huggins Beach Service, and the driver, saying Rabon suffered from multiple crushed vertebrae and had his spinal cord permanently damaged. They said he also suffered brain injuries and was in a coma-like state.
