The University of South Carolina is set for a huge growth spurt of its student body as the school gears up to welcome a huge freshman class with solid academic credentials.
An estimated 4550 freshman are expected to move into dormitories next weekend for classes that start Thursday August 18. The large influx of freshmen will push the number of students on the main campus in Columbia to 30,000. The school also expects the number of African American students to increase by eight percent. School officials report that the average SAT score for the incoming freshmen is 1198, which is up 10 points from last year’s freshmen class. The average grade point average also increased from 3.72 to 3.83.
Nearly 80 percent of the freshman class is from South Carolina. The reaming 40 percent hail from 39 other states and 13 countries. .
