Early this morning, a fire ignited in the Graphics Arts room on the USS Yorktown in Charleston. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department was notified immediately of the fire by the state-of-the-art fire alarm system on the Yorktown. The fire was quickly contained, but did put out a lot of smoke.
Multiple media outlets report after the fire was out, crews worked on ventilating the ship. Patriot’s Point Executive Director Mac Burdette said the fire happened in one of the print shops, quickly contained, and all fire alarms worked properly and efficiently. Reports say one firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion, but expected to be okay. The museum remained open and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
