At least three major grocery store chains are recalling certain packages of ground beef due to possible E. coli contamination. The recall includes stores in South Carolina.
The recalls at Winn-Dixie, Publix, and Kroger super markets are aimed at meat from the National Beef Packaging Company of Dodge City, Kansas. National Beef is recalling more than 60,000 pounds of beef after the Ohio Department of Agriculture found the bacteria. The recalls affect products sold mainly in seven southern states including South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. However, the meat could have been distributed nationwide. Customers are asked to check their refrigerators and freezers for certain items containing ground beef with “sell by” dates of July 29 through August 12. So far, the USDA says there have been no reports of illnesses. .
