The mayor of Atlantic Beach returned to town hall this week after past charges against her. Mayor Retha Pierce returned to her office after being removed for hit-and-run charges. The charges have since been dropped, so Pierce returned to the Atlantic Beach Town Hall at a council meeting Tuesday.
The Morning News of Florence reports Pierce was found guilty of resisting arrest and ordered to 18 months probation–a heavier charge than hit-and-run. Since then, trespassing and driving under the influence charges have also been dropped. In 2009, former Governor Mark Sanford suspended Pierce after her indictment and now she is returning after two years.
The mayor says her goal is to help people and says she never should’ve been dismissed.
