Men might be happy to know that Columbia is one of the nation’s manliest cities, according to an amusing study.
Sperling’s BestPlaces and snack company Combos ranked cities around the country based on a series of what they call “manly” factors. These include the presence of sports teams, race tracks, barbecue restaurants, and the number of pickup trucks and motorcycles per capita. Cities also received points for the number of “manly” occupations, such as firefighters, police officers, EMT personnel, or construction workers.
Cities also lost points for “emasculating” criteria, such as the number of home furnishing and decor stores or sushi restaurants.
Columbia jumped eight spots this year to take the honor of “fifth-manliest” city in the country. Charlotte fell to number two, although the “Queen City” held the number one spot last year. Nashville took this year’s honors and Oklahoma City and Memphis rounded out the top five.
