From Myrtle Beach today, GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry announced he will not be in attendance for Senator Jim DeMint’s Palmetto Freedom Forum with other GOP presidential hopefuls in Columbia. The Texas governor is heading back to Texas to monitor the massive wildfires that are ravaging through the state.
CNN confirms Perry’s departure from South Carolina, and says the wildfires are of major concern. So far, nearly 300 homes have already been reported as destroyed and a mother and her 18-month-old child died in the fire. Currently, the fire is about 16 miles outside of Austin, Texas–the state’s capital.
As Perry returns to Texas, five other GOP presidential candidates are still scheduled to attend DeMint’s forum. Perry was able to attend a town hall in Conway earlier this morning.
