The South Carolina Aquarium is considering spending nearly $70 million to improve the Charleston attraction to make it more inviting for tourists and locals. The aquarium’s master plan includes $69 million in improvements–the same amount it cost to build the original aquarium. Some of those improvements include a walkway through a shark tank, a butterfly garden and a huge whale suspended from the ceiling.
The Charleston attraction opened in 2000, and officials say they are ready to expand to attract more visitors. The aquarium says it will take about 10 years to complete the expansion.
