Governor Nikki Haley travelled to Aiken County for Bridgestone Americas announcement of its new 1.5 million square foot radial plant in Graniteville that will bring 850 jobs to the area. She says Bridgestone Corporation is an example of the type of company the state wants because they care about their employees. Haley says Bridgestone’s announcement sends the message that South Carolina is a great place to do business.
Bridgestone in turn thanked Haley and the Commerce Department team, saying they have had “tremendous support from the leadership.”
Construction of the new plant will be done in phases and completion is expected in 2020. The company will also expand its existing light truck tire plant by 474,000 square feet. Those projects are in addition to the announcement in July to add 266,000 square feet to Bridgestone’s current plant. The value of the three projects of $1.2 billion eclipses Boeing’s 2009 promise to bring $750 million in investment to the state. Though , Boeing promised 3,800 jobs with its facility in North Charleston.
