The House District 100 seat in Berkeley County remains under Republican leadership. Republican Eddy Southard won this week’s special election for the House seat. Southard, Berkeley County Planning Commission Chairman, took 60 percent of the vote–beating out Democrat Pastor Tonia Aiken-Taylor, a Moncks Corner council member. Southard takes over the seat left vacated by the late David Umphlett who passed away from cancer in May.
Southard received 2,157 votes, compared to Aiken-Taylor’s 1,450 votes. Reports say Aiken-Taylor plans to run again next November–when the seat comes open for re-election. House District 100 includes Moncks Corner, Whitesville, Cordesville, Pimlico and Macedonia.
