Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell is gathering Senate leaders to work on what he has dubbed his “Fiscal Fitness” agenda. The Charleston Republican has named a committee to to hold hearings across the state about the state’s financial problems— and McConnell’s solutions to those.
He has added another issue to his list, what he calls a “broad-based regulatory reform initiative” to change the way regulations and fees are approved in South Carolina. He would like to require an affirmative vote of the General Assembly before any regulations go into effect and to prohibit fees from being created or raised in regulations or in the budget bill.
McConnell says he has personally asked the following lawmakers to serve: Senator Tom Davis (R-Beaufort); Sen. Vincent Sheheen, (R-Kershaw County); Sen. Shane Massey (R-Edgefield County); Sen. Jake Knotts (R-Lexington); Sen. Gerald Malloy(D-Darlington); and Senator Phil Shoopman, (R-Greenville).
Senator McConnell will chair the subcommittee.
