SC Republican Party Chairman Chad Connelly says the state’s 2012 presidential primary date of January 21, will keep their first-in-the South status–and allow campaigns time to move on to Florida. There were concerns among party leaders that placing it too close to Florida’s new January 21 date would make candidate have to choose between two Southern states.
South Carolina, Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada have all agreed to move their dates in tandem, despite party penalties.
Either way, Chairman Connelly says the changes make the primary election calendar, more “chaotic and compressed.”
Another announcement today, in conjunction with Fox News, the South Carolina Republican Party will also host a Republican debate in the days leading up to the primary.
