Thirteen Clover High School football players have been suspended following several incidents of hazing reported over the past two weeks. Clover School District Public Information Director Mychal Frost said Friday that school officials began investigating allegations and rumors of three separate incidents in the boys locker room before football practice.
“The coaching staff began investigating on their own by asking players that were allegedly involved,” Frost told Rock Hill radio station WRHI, “As the rumor mill then quickly grew, the administration at the school became actively involved on Wednesday questioning student athletes as well as students in general to figure out what of the rumors is truth.”
While Frost would not comment on the specific allegations, students reportedly told administrators that several football players held down a 9th grade student, sexually assaulting him with a broomstick.
In a written release Friday afternoon, York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Mike Baker said the school’s administration is cooperating with the investigation, and any potential criminal charges have yet to be determined. The incident remains under investigation.
