The South Carolina State Fair had a rough start Wednesday.
The State newspaper reports six people were hurt slightly after the Banzai ride malfunctioned on the fair’s opening night. They were injured when a weld holding one the ride’s footrests flew apart, sending metal pieces shooting into the crowd. All six were treated at the fair’s first aid center and were released. Fair officials say no one had to be taken to the hospital.
State inspectors have been called in to look at the ride, which has been shut down. Fair officials did not know when, or if, it would re-open, saying it depends on what the inspectors find.
