A former Beaufort County Sheriffs deputy was arrested after he was accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a teen.
According to an arrest warrant from the State Law Enforcement Division, Deputy Andrew Meier began communicating with a 15-year-old girl through Yahoo Instant Messanger and gradually started texting her, as well. The warrant says the texts became increasingly sexual in nature. “The language in these messages… was lewd and vulgar and of a sexual nature,” the warrant states.
Those conversations eventually led to the 39-year-old Meier meeting with the girl several times in July. Investigators said the messges implied that inappropriate touching occurred during some of these meetings.
The warrant says Meier was believed to be on duty when the meetings took place. He worked for the Beaufort County Sheriffs Office from December 2008 until he was fired on July 21. He is charged with Misconduct in Office and Unlawful Dissemination of Obscene Material to Person Under 18 Years of Age.
The warrant does not say how officers found out about the messages and meetings, but does mention statements from unnamed witnesses.
The teen’s name was not released.
