The 2012 election campaign is fully underway in South Carolina for the Democrats. Organizing for America South Carolina is staffed and has established a Lowcountry office, local canvasses have started and the state party is holding high-profile fundraisers in Charleston.
This afternoon and tonight in Charleston, Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla) is headlining three fundraising events, starting with the Blue Jamboree picnic and rally and followed by a reception at $125 a ticket. There is also a higher-priced private dinner to follow that.
The DNC chair –known by staff and party leaders as “DWS”— is one of a string of “surrogates” for the president who are coming to the state to rally the party’s base. Her job is to be the chief party cheerleader, and in South Carolina, her party is the minority and faces lowest-ever poll numbers for the president.
In an interview today with South Carolina Radio Network, Wasserman Schultz said “There is no corner of the country, no region of the country that we will concede to the Republicans.” She also takes aim at Gov. Nikki Haley, Republicans in Congress and Mitt Romney. AUDIO: Listen to interview excerpt (6:55)
