A Dillon city councilman had to go to the hospital after he was shot over the weekend.
James Washington told WPDE-TV that he was working at the Lucky Charms casino he helps manage across the North Carolina border when two masked men broke in through the back at closing time Saturday. Washington said the two demanded money. After he gave them cash, one of the robbers shot him in the back near his shoulder. He said he then called 911 and an ambulance took him to the hospital.
He was treated and released a few hours later. An officer at the Rowlands, North Carolina police station confirmed to WPDE that a shooting had occurred at the casino, but did not immediately have a police report available.
Washington has served on Dillon City Council since 1999.
