House Speaker Bobby Harrell and a handful of legislators and officials stood behind Gov. Rick Perry at the SC Statehouse today, while national and state media packed the area outside of House chambers.
Harrell endorsed the candidate, saying “Governor Perry has not only survived in this arena, he has thrived.”
Perry reiterated his new tax plan and took questions from the media. He sidestepped making any definitive statement to explain his questioning the president’s birth certificate–calling the issue a “big distraction.” He compared his flat tax plan to frontrunner Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan and spoke about his meeting with South Carolina’s Senator Jim DeMint.
