The Greenville Hospital System has launched a new online check-in service that allows patients to hold their place in line at GHS emergency rooms or its convenient-care centers.
The service is for non-life-threatening conditions and minor emergencies only. Dr. Jack Colker, Chairman of the GHS Department of Emergency Medicine, said he got the idea after doing a review of the system. “It became that using this system would allow us a little bit of flexibility to allow us to try to find a way to distribute patients a little bit better and to allow the patients to self-select where they want to go,” Colker said, “Most importantly, it will allow them to wait at home.”
Patients will be seen by a healthcare provider within 15 minutes of the slotted time. There will be a $5 service fee.
The service began on September 13. Officials say it will take a few months before any impact is known.
