This weekend, five of the candidates were in Iowa. Read O.K. Henderson’s blog about the event. Then Newt Gingrich went to Texas, to join his friend (and frontrunner) Herman Cain at a two-man discussion touted as a debate for the Tea Party there. It was a fundraiser for the Texas Tea Party Patriots PAC and was promoted by tea party leaders we heard from in South Carolina.
As the LA Times reports, the two worked together and used lots of humor.
A couple of journalist-hosted debates are on the schedule for this week. On Saturday, the candidates will be at Spartanburg’s Wofford College for the CBS News, National Journal debate, which will focus on national security. It will be the first regular network debate for the primary this year.
Also: Michele Bachmann will be in South Carolina several times this week. She plans to speak at Seawell’s Banquest and Conference Center in Columbia Tuesday at 12:30. On Thursday, she will give a foreign policy speech at the Patriots Point Maritime Museum in Charleston at 12:30, and on Friday she will take part in Columbia’s Veterans Day parade.
Rick Perry also plans to participate in the parade.
