Governor Nikki Haley spoke to the Propeller Club of Charleston Tuesday–a group of the state’s maritime community members about her compromise with the Port of Savannah. The governor told maritime and port leaders “there is nothing that I am more committed to than the Port of Charleston.” Haley also hinted on what she called a very serious matter– the Port of Savannah.
Last week, Georgia officials praised Haley for her support and help on a compromise to eliminate some of South Carolina’s objections with deepening the Savannah port. Some South Carolina lawmakers said Haley’s support shouldn’t be based on a compromise when the Port of Savannah is in direct competition with Charleston.
Haley told the leaders her newly appointed DHEC board worked with Georgia officials to set a benchmark, which Georgia ended up meeting.
