The man who prompted a nearly three-hour-long standoff in Berea last evening was shot and killed after an exchange of gunfire with authorities. The standoff happened in the parking lot of the Department of Motor Vehicles on Saluda Dam Rd.
Deputies said 25-year-old Zachary Whitfield was being chased by Anderson County deputies, with the help of the SC Highway Patrol.

Anderson County deputies said they were chasing the suspect in connection with a break-in at a home in the Powdersville area.The seven deputies that returned fire have been placed on administrative duty. SLED has been called in to investigate.
Greenville County has called a press conference for today.
