A Horry County councilman has entered the hotly contested, newly formed 7th District race. South Carolina’s list of candidates running for the 7th District is getting crowded. It covers the northeast corner of the state and runs along that part of the coast.
Horry County Council Chairman Tim Rice announced Wednesday he will run for the House seat. He is the fifth Republican to enter the race with former Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, House Representative Thad Viers, Mande Wilkes and Gary Stephens. On the Democratic side Representative Ted Vick, Parnell Diggs and Dick Withington are seeking the nomination.
South Carolina created the new district because of a boom in the state’s population growth after a recent Census count. The 7th District Primary will be next June. Rice says he plans to continue his normal county council duties while campaigning.
