The Orangeburg County Sheriffs Office arrested a man after deputies said he drove a vehicle into a gas station so he could rob it.
Deputies accuse 19-year-old Eutawville native Coty Ott of backing a pickup truck into a Bowman gas station early Wednesday morning. They say he then stole some merchandise from the Exxon Quick Trip and drove off.
The sheriff’s office says it was alerted around 3:30 am that the station’s alarm was going off. Deputies saw the damage when they arrived and were able to use the surveillance video to trace the pickup to Ott.
According to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, Ott admitted to an investigator that he had stolen the 1992 pickup from nearby Wampoo Plantation. The truck had the farm’s decal on its side.
The incident report says Ott stole sandwiches and and drinks from a cooler, totalling about $30 in value. The pickup was worth about $1500, according to the report.
