19-year-old Charlie Wood of Pelion was arrested by the Anderson County Sheriffs Office Wednesday in connection with the death of a woman found lying outside her vehicle early Tuesday morning.
Authorities say 42-year-old Cynthia Charping died from a blow to the head. Her body was found at 1:30 am Tuesday outside a vehicle on Little Mountain Road while her 7-month son was found unharmed inside the vehicle. The son is now in the care of the Department of Social Services.
Investigators say Wood knew Charping before her death, but have not yet released a possible motive.
“We understand that they have been acquaintances for a little while,” Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper told reporters Wednesday, “They end up on this road at that particular time at night. There was an altercation that came about and she died from blunt force trauma to the head.”
“We are still in the process of actually getting some search warrants to look at several places and look for several items involved in the case,” he said.
Wood is being held in the Anderson County Detention Center.
