It’s official; Amazon.com is coming to the Upstate.
The Spartanburg County Council passed this morning the third reading of an incentive package for Amazon.com to build a distribution center in the county. The package includes a six percent fee-in-lieu of taxes agreement which will give Amazon a 30-year tax break.
Council chairman Jeff Horton today said this is very welcome news in what has been a tough year for the county.
The company will begin building in the next few weeks and plans to hire about 400 workers, plus some seasonal hirings. Amazon is likely to make an official announcement next week.
Councilman David Britt told South Carolina Radio Network last week that this will be the single largest project for his county in more than two years.
