A former clerk of court in Manning was arrested Monday and charged with misconduct in office.
Russell Miller was booked at the Clarendon County Detention Center Monday morning. The State Law Enforcement Division accuses Miller of failing to deposit nearly $13,000 in city court fines that were supposed to be put in Manning’s municipal account.
Miller was suspended in February after SLED began its investigation. An arrest warrant said Miller had been entrusted to deposit the funds and did not. However, the warrant did not say if officials believed he used it for his own purposes. SLED did not offer any further details.
Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett had asked SLED to investigate the missing money in February, saying he worked too closely with city employees to be impartial.
