The two arrests have been made in connection with the discovery of more than 150 abandoned cats in a mobile home. The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department says they found the cats in the home Saturday after getting a call from the property owner.
The owner reported the home on Joree Drive in Cordova was found filled with feces after a tenant moved out.
The sheriff’s office says Amy June Thomas and Richard William Thomas have each been charged with animal cruelty.
A police report states the cats were left to survive in deplorable conditions without food or water and were forced to feed on each other for survival.
It took animal control personnel nearly 5 hours to round up the cats. The agency is currently caring for the animals.
