An Aiken police officer died Wednesday morning– hours after he and another officer were shot during a traffic stop.
Aiken Public Safety Officer Scotty Richardson was shot during the stop on Brandt Court Tuesday night. He was taken to an Augusta hospital, where he died Wednesday morning. The second officer, Travis Griffin, was released from the hospital after being shot in the chest. Officials say Griffin was wearing a bullet-proof vest.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was also shot and taken to the hospital. His condition has not been released. Richardson was an Aiken native and graduated from USC-Aiken. He is survived by his wife and three kids.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the case, which is standard for any officer-involved shooting.
