A new poll of likely South Carolina Republican voters shows the presidential race in the state is a statistical dead heat, as a recent Mitt Romney surge appears to have evaporated.
The Insider-Advantage poll of 726 likely Republican primary voters shows Mitt Romney leading with 23 percent of support. Newt Gingrich was second with 21 percent and Rick Santorum was third with 14 percent.
Ron Paul got 13 percent, John Huntsman had 7 percent, and Rick Perry trailed at 5 percent.
Only 15 percent of respondents said they were undecided.
The poll completed Wednesday night had a 4 percent margin of error.
