Newt Gingrich rode the support of South Carolina’s strong conservative base to take down Mitt Romney in tonight’s primary. Gingrich, who trailed Mitt Romney by double digits in the polls earlier this week, has spent a lot of time painting Romney as moderate, hitting the former governor hard in the two debates this week.
Romney told his supporters tonight that he’s still the best candidate to beat Barack Obama November and has already turned his attention to the next primary in Florida.
