Family and friends of Tom Sponseller came together Wednesday night for an emotional candlelight vigil on the lawn of the Statehouse.
Sponseller, the CEO of the South Carolina Hospitality Association, was reported missing Saturday. He was last seen working in downtown Columbia at noon Saturday. Columbia Police continued Wednesday to describe Sponseller as a missing person.
Investigators have tried to track Sponseller through his cell phone and credit cards, but have not reported any leads.
About 300 people gathered on the Statehouse steps Wednesday to pray, sing, and remember stories about Sponseller.
According to the Hospitality Association, Sponseller grew up in Greenville and is married with three adult children. He spent 18 years with Canteen Corporation and joined the South Carolina Restaurant Association in 1990, helping facilitate a merger with the South Carolina Hotel & Motel Association in 1992.
