The South Carolina House of Representatives Tuesday, overwhelmingly overriding Gov. Nikki Haley’s veto of a resolution blocking Savannah River dredging.
By a vote of 111-1, the House kept the resolution intact, suspending a permit granted by the state environmental agency last year. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-Rock Hill) was the lone vote for the governor.
Rep. Jim Merrill (R-Charleston) was furious,“This is a political ploy!” he said. “Once again, I’m going to say it very clearly, she is working more on behalf of Georgia when it comes to this permit and this issue than she is on the state of South Carolina.”
Rep. Harry Ott (D-St. Matthews) said the governor needs to admit she’s wrong.
