A Cheraw police detective was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence in his unmarked patrol car.
Chesterfield Police say Sgt. David Watson was off-duty when he was arrested early Sunday morning. According to the Chesterfield Link, he was arrested after locking himself inside his house. Cheraw Police Chief Jay Brooks told the paper that Watson has since been relieved of his duties.
Town of Chesterfield Police say they responded to a call about a suspicious car near Bojangles around 1:15 a.m. Officers later found Watson’s car and pulled him over at his house. Officers said Watson refused to take take a breathalyzer test and was arrested.
In a statement, Cheraw Police Chief Jay Brooks said Watson was fired– rather than simply suspended until his case was decided– because he had violated several department policies.
