Members of the Democratic Party in Florence County says the Florence County GOP did follow the State Supreme Court’s order to kick anyone off the ballot who did not file their economic disclosure paperwork properly. Instead local Democrats say county Republican leaders just recertified all candidates.
The SC Supreme Court in May restated the state’s law that requires all candidates to file their economic statements and their candidacy at the same time.
The sticking point for many was that the economic form was an online filing. Confusion over that resulted in 183 candidates being disqualified. More candidates might be kicked off if Florence Democrats win this challenge.
The court will likely act swiftly on this matter, as South Carolina’s primary is set for June 12.
