In the Lowcountry tonight, the July 4 focus in on the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mt. Pleasant and its famous fireworks show.
Executive Director of Patriots Point Mac Burdette, says there will be a “first” for fireworks at the museum.
“For viewing the fireworks in the past, the fireworks have always been shot from the deck of the USS Yorktown. This year, we were able to procure a barge at no cost to Patriots Point that allowed us to rent the flight deck and have a big party up there,” says Burdette.
He says they were able to sell 1,000 tickets to the event, without crowding .
Part of the reason for this, says Burdette, they continue to look for creative ways to keep customers coming to the state-supported museum.
He says the job will be to keep history alive for the younger generation.
