Anderson County deputies say several would-be witnesses are not talking after an early morning shooting left a man dead Thursday. The shooting happened behind a baseball field in the town of Iva.
Deputies say 30-year-old Nathan Robinson was shot multiple times around 2 a.m. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sam McBride said a crowd had gathered at the scene when officers got there.
“Most of them fled upon the deputies’ arrival,” McBride said in a phone interview Friday, “There are probably several people out there that saw what happened, knew what happened, and we need those folks to come forward.”
Robinson was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but later died while in surgery.
He did say officers do not think the shooting was random, but says the department is asking any potential witnesses to come forward with information.
The ballfield is known to be a late-night hangout.
