The American Red Cross is deploying volunteers from South Carolina to assist in relief efforts along the Gulf Coast and Florida as Hurricane Isaac hits land.
The Red Cross, Columbia Region, which spans over 28 counties from Aiken to Myrtle Beach, has deployed seven volunteers to the Gulf coast and Florida in order to prepare for the landfall of Hurricane Isaac.
More than 1,500 volunteers from around the country and 150 emergency response vehicles are currently helping with hurricane response.
The Red Cross has opened 22 shelters and supported 20 community shelters. They expect that number to continue to increase.
There are also additional volunteers and five more emergency vehicles in South Carolina ready to be deployed once the hurricane hits land.
