The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday that they have made it possible for people to get license plates online.
SCDMV’s Spokeswoman Beth Parks says this is something that the DMV decided to do to make life easier for South Carolina drivers.
“It’s something that we had the capability of doing, and it would make it easier for our customers,” says Parks. “It would keep customers from having to go into a DMV office to do this.”
Parks says there are 84 different kinds of plates available online, but there are a few kinds of plates that have specific requirements.
“To be able to use one of the services you have to have a valid license plate and vehicle registration. The address on registration has to be current, because that’s where we’re going to mail the new plate,” says Parks.
The new plates are made digitally. Parks says people no longer have to drive to the DMV to order their plate and then wait.
Now all anyone has to do is get online, pick their plate, order it, and then it will come in the mail within a few days.
