A man accused of kidnapping a Columbia teen has now been indicted on a federal ammunition charge.
52-year-old Freddie Grant was indicted with being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to prosecutors involved in the case. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in October. Grant is accused of kidnapping 15-year-old Gabrielle Swainson. She’s not been seen since August 18. Grant had been in a relationship with Swainson’s mother and had done yard work for the family.
Richland County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Grant after saying they found blood from the missing teen on duct tape when they searched Grant’s home last month. Deputies said they also found .38-caliber bullets and shells for a 12-gauge shotgun — ammunition Grant is not allowed to have as a convicted felon.
Prosecutors say Grant could face a life sentence if a judge decides that his prior convictions make him an armed career criminal.
