A 19-year-old man on probation has been charged in connection with a fatal weekend shooting in downtown Charleston.
Charleston Police on Tuesday charged Brandon Scott with accessory after the fact. He was already on probation for a narcotics charge. Officers earlier charged 23-year-old Darren Simmons with murder in the death of 37-year-old Albert Brown. Simmons was arrested on Monday
Simmons was also on probation for a burglary charge. He is now being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. Police say Brown was found shot in the head at the corner of Line and Nassau streets early Saturday morning. The intersection is located near Martin’s Park on the eastern side of the peninsula.
A Charleston police spokesman said Brown was dead by the time officers and medical personnel reached him. The spokesman also said that Scott admitted the three were involved in a drug deal when Brown was shot.
