South Carolina’s House Republicans Wednesday elected fifth-term Rep. Bruce Bannister to lead the House Republican Caucus for the upcoming two-year legislative session.
The Greenville lawmaker takes over for Cayce Rep. Kenny Bingham, who is cannot serve again as Majority Leader by Caucus Rules. Bannister served four years as the Assistant Majority Leader.
This is first time in 20 years that the caucus has picked its leader from the Upstate.
Bannister was elected to the House in 2005 to fill the unexpired term of House Speaker David Wilkins, who was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Canada. He is the managing partner at the Bannister and Wyatt law firm in Greenville.
