It’s been a while since South Carolina has had a Senator Thurmond. As of Wednesday’s swearing-in at the Statehouse, there is state Senator Paul Thurmond, son of the legendary U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond.
Thurmond was also elected after being disqualified for improperly filing paperwork, and then surviving a series of legal challenges to his candidacy.
Thurmond is the son of the state’s famous Republican U-S Senator Strom Thurmond:
In his first remarks to his SC Senate colleagues, Thurmond said “I would be remiss to not mention the lineage that I am so fortunate to come from. I hope that doesn’t create a stereotype for you. I hope it gives you an opportunity to hear me out, whether it is positive or negative. I’ve stood on my own two feet.”
