It’s usually Charleston native Stephen Colbert who teases about running for office in South Carolina. But it is his sister who is actually stepping into the political arena.
Elizabeth Colbert-Busch has made a name for herself in a more serious occupation—business manager for Clemson’s Restoration Institute in Charleston. PatchPolitics confirmed Friday that she would join the race for now-Sen. Tim Scott’s vacated U.S. House seat.
Friday, businessman Martin Kelly announced he will run for the seat as a Democrat.
This makes three Democrats officially in the primary race for the congressional seat that runs along much of the state’s coastline. Bobbie Rose, who ran against Rep. Tim Scott in the past race, will try again.
