A 13-year manhunt that began in South Carolina has ended in Texas.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced Tuesday that the search for 44-year-old Rudolph Darby is over. Deputies say Darby burglarized a home on December 11, 1999, pointed a shotgun at the homeowner, and then led deputies on a car chases that ended with him shooting at two of the officers.
Darby has been on the run since then. However, deputies say he was finally caught on Tuesday morning in Waco, Texas. Officers there say Darby was taken into custody after assaulting an officer. He was using the alias Joe Stewart.
Lott says Darby will be held in Waco for an extradition hearing before he can be brought back to Richland County to face charges. If he is extradited back, he faces charges of first-degree burglary, pointing and presenting a firearm, grand larceny, unlawful possession of a pistol and two counts of assault with intent to kill.
