North Charleston Police say a suspect in a fatal shooting Thursday has surrendered to authorities.
23-year-old Terrance Lance turned himself in just before midnight Thursday, according to a spokesman with the North Charleston Police Department. Investigators believe the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Rodriguez Henderson stemmed from an earlier fight with Lance.
Officers responded to the 2700 block of Saratoga Road after receiving calls of shots fired and a victim down just before noon Thursday. Officers found Henderson on the ground in a front yard with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. Officers searched the area for a report of two men who were seen running from the scene, but no suspects were found.
Officers said they found a handgun underneath Henderson, but have not said if it belonged to him or to one of the suspected shooters.
Charleston County school officials put Burns Elementary School, Garrett Academy, Memminger Elementary School and James Simons Elementary school on administrative lockdown during the police activity in the area.
Lance has several previous drug charges pending against him after an arrest in May.
