The school bus driver contract talks are over. Unionized drivers in the Lowcountry will now vote on a new contract.
Durham School Services bus drivers have contracts with the Charleston County, Beaufort County, and Dorchester School District 2. But they have been a dispute with their company and have been working without a contract since July, as a result. The drivers— who are represented by the Teamsters Local 509— have been in contract talks with Durham for the past seven months.
Dorchester-2 drivers voted Tuesday night to accept the contract. Durham drivers in Beaufort are to vote Wednesday and Charleston County drivers will vote on Saturday.
Teamsters Local 509 President L.D. Fletcher is recommending that drivers accept the deal. If Beaufort and Charleston drivers do vote down the contract, they would strike starting on Monday.
