A Woodruff man has been arrested for taking nearly $19,000 in Girl Scout cookies.
Greenville County Sheriff’s deputies say they have arrested 37-year-old Christopher Morton and charged him with Breach of Trust More than $10,000 for taking about $19,000 in Girl Scout cookies from a Spartanburg warehouse. The owner of Carey Moving and Storage, Brian Carey, reported that more than 450 cases of cookies were taken from his facilities on February 26. Carey says employees doing an inventory check last week realized that cases of Thin Mints and Short Breads were missing.
Deputies said they found 352 cases of Girl Scout cookies behind an abandoned business in Greenville County on Sunday.
Investigators say Morton had been a truck driver for Carey Moving and Storage since July. Spartanburg County deputies said they suspected Morton after watching surveillance video at the warehouse. When an investigator spoke with Morton Wednesday, he confessed to stealing 450 cases of cookies, valued at $18,900. Morton has been terminated as a result of his arrest.
